Some adults believe cavities only attack children’s teeth. Although this seems more common, it’s not true. Adult smiles can also have cavities. In fact, adult smiles have cavities quite often. However, this doesn’t have to be the case for you. You can avoid tooth decay and other dental issues if you take good care of your smile. Dr. Rafla and our dental team would be happy to help you do so by giving you some tips!

First, clean your teeth and gums regularly. Keeping up on oral hygiene means brushing twice a day and flossing and rinsing daily. These things can remove bacteria and other harmful substances from your smile before they attack and harm your teeth. Just remember to use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, floss that is easy to use, and beneficial mouthwash.

Second, visit your dentist. It’s important to visit Dr. Rafla every six months for a routine dental cleaning and exam. These appointments are vital because the treatment we provide is the only treatment that can completely remove tartar from your teeth, which is a dangerous and extremely toxic substance. There are also additional treatments that can strengthen and nourish your teeth, giving them the ability to fight tooth decay. So, please keep up with your appointments.

Third, have a healthy diet. As you may already know, sugar can create cavities, so it’s best to limit sugar consumption as much as possible. It’s also important to eat tooth-healthy foods regularly, like fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. These things can strengthen your tooth enamel as well as clean your teeth frequently.
