Protect your teeth from damage and decay. Due to the often-overwhelming amount of risks to our teeth and gums, you must take extra care to protect your teeth whenever possible. This includes wearing safety equipment when applicable, eating the right foods, and stopping or quitting all bad habits that increase your risk for oral ailments.

Never use your teeth as a bottle opener. Your teeth are durable but are often no match for much harder materials in our world, including bottle caps. If you are not careful, you can easily break off multiple teeth.

Not all oral health risks come from outside sources. If you have bruxism, your teeth are at an increased risk of failure. The reason is because bruxism is the result of your teeth gnawing and grinding together, often unconsciously. If left unchecked, the grinding of teeth can weaken your tooth enamel and even cause chips and cracks to occur.

Some oral health risks come in small packages. Sugars within foods can cause tooth loss as well. If bacteria begin to build in your mouth, it will form a fine layer called plaque. When sugars are introduced, the plaque can convert the sugars into harmful acids that can erode the tooth enamel and expose your smile to cavities.
